You Need to Read This If You’re Planning a Sunny Vacation…

by | Sep 3, 2025

It’s that time of year again — many of us are gearing up for holidays in the sun. We’re already dreaming of that blissful feeling: lying on a beach towel in a swimsuit, the sun gently warming our skin, lulled by the sound of waves…

Ah, pure joy. Total relaxation. And hey, bonus points for soaking up that vitamin D.

If you’re anything like me, here’s how it usually goes:

Day 1: I apply sunscreen religiously every 20 minutes.
Day 2: I reapply every two hours.
Day 3: I put it on when I arrive at the beach… and then the bottle stays buried at the bottom of the bag. I’m in full vacation mode, shoulders kissed by the sun, feeling like Melissa from Ibiza.
Day 4…5: Predictably, I’m no longer golden — I’m lobster red. A 32°C shower feels like I’m being grilled on a barbecue.

And then I ask myself… how did I fall for it again?!

We all know the recommendations: avoid peak sun hours, apply broad-spectrum sunscreen, reapply every 20 minutes…

But let’s be honest — it’s not always that simple. Between scheduled activities (because the only paddleboard slot is at 1:30 PM), kids who won’t leave until every shell on the beach is collected, and the three chapters I still need to finish from the only book I’ve touched in six months… well, sunscreen discipline starts to slip.

Even with an iWatch reminder pinging “Sunscreen time!” every 20 minutes, you need a plan B.

Nature Has a Backup Plan

This remedy isn’t the result of a scientific summit creating a miracle formula. Quite the opposite — scientists are still exploring the unique compounds of this ancient plant-based oil.

It’s the sacred tree oil with a thousand virtues: Tamanu oil (INCI: Calophyllum inophyllum).

Tamanu Oil: Polynesian Wisdom in a Bottle

Tamanu oil is deeply rooted in traditional Polynesian medicine and beauty rituals. It’s recommended for dry, sensitive, or problem skin — and for everyday mishaps like burns, insect bites, or scraped knees.

It’s been studied seriously since the 1930s and is featured in Paul Petard’s reference book Useful Plants of Polynesia, Raau Tahiti (1986, Jaere Po No Tahiti Editions).

Its regenerative properties are well documented, and it’s especially valued as an after-sun treatment.

Still with me?

Tamanu oil is the Swiss army knife of Polynesian pharmacopoeia. No doubt about it — it belongs in your bathroom.

Our Tamanu Oil: Pure, and Potent

Like all oils, its quality depends on origin, harvest, and extraction. Ours comes from wild trees growing along the coasts of the Tuamotu, Marquesas, and Leeward Islands. The kernels are carefully extracted and dried for at least one month to ensure a high concentration of active compounds, with resin content between 10–16%. The oil is then cold-pressed to preserve its full potency.

Whether you’re heading to a beach halfway across the world or spending a weekend at the campground — don’t leave without Tamanu oil in your bag.

Under the Petticoat of our quest for embellishment

The visual, the appearance is an ancestral preoccupation. Is it a quest for cultural belonging? Is it a quest for self-approval? Is it a quest for youth? Is it a quest driven by our ego? I think this is a whole that mixes history, culture, nature and emotion. We first...

It is pretty obvious that our skin reflects many things. The skin is the result, the reflection of our emotions. In good ways or in bad ways… When we feel good, we’re glowing. When we go through tough times, we somatize, and at best it’s just an acne breakout. Our...
